Hamptons Bypass
CONNECTING PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES
The Hamptons Bypass will enhance the lives and livelihoods of those in the surrounding communities by:
Providing an alternative and direct route for vehicular traffic, reducing cut-through traffic from the Hamptons Community
Providing enhanced walking and cycling connections including a crosswalk and direct route between the Hamptons and Sunrise communities
Traffic calming is a concern to the Town and therefore roundabouts are proposed, a narrow road width along the alignment (which lends to lower speeds) and a flashing pedestrian crossing to Sunrise and beyond neighborhoods. Additional traffic calming measures that might also be considered depending on feedback, and technical review are permanent speed indicator signs, raised crosswalks, speed humps and/or rumble strips.

Pedestrian and Cycling Connections
The Hamptons Bypass Project will provide a new multi-use pathway along the bypass road with a crosswalk connection between Sunrise Crescent NE, connecting the Hamptons and Sunrise communities and enhancing the pedestrian and cycling network in the community.

Roundabout at 2 Avenue SE / Sunshine Trail / Hamptons Boulevard
The intersection at 2 Avenue / Sunshine Trail / Hamptons Boulevard will be converted to a single-lane roundabout allowing all traffic movements and accommodating larger trucks using a stamped concrete truck apron on the centre island. Small concrete islands will be added to the west and south legs of this intersection to direct traffic flow into the roundabout. The lane accesses immediately to the south will be retained as compatible with the roundabout; the west lane access will be a right out only, the east lane access will be a right-in/right-out only.

Roundabout at 20 Street / 2 Avenue NE / Hampton Hills Drive
The intersection at 20 Street / 2 Avenue NE / Hampton Hills Drive will be converted to a single-lane roundabout allowing all traffic movements and accommodating larger trucks using a stamped concrete truck apron on the centre island. Small concrete islands will be added on the east and west approach legs of the intersection to direct traffic flow into the roundabout. The existing north leg and new south leg of this intersection will have larger concrete islands, allowing for single approach and exit lanes and providing a refuge for pedestrians crossing at the intersection.
